High blood pressure

Blood pressure that stays higher than it should, usually without symptoms.

What it is

High blood pressure puts steady strain on the heart, brain and kidneys. It rarely causes symptoms, which is why regular checks matter.

Common signs
  • Usually none at all
  • Sometimes headaches or blurred vision when very high
  • Readings repeatedly at or above 130/80
  • Family history of high blood pressure or stroke
What care may look like

We confirm readings over time, often with home monitoring, check for causes and complications with blood and urine tests, and build a plan combining eating pattern, activity, sleep, stress and — when needed — medication reviewed regularly.

What you can do now
  • Check blood pressure at home and log it
  • Reduce salt, especially in packaged food
  • Move 30 minutes most days
  • Keep alcohol low and avoid tobacco
  • Take medicines at the same time daily
When to contact us

Contact us if home readings are consistently high, if you have side effects from a medicine, or if you run out of a prescription.
