GLP-1 pricing questions, answered

What you pay for GLP-1 weight-loss care depends on the medicine, how often you take it and whether insurance is involved. Here's how it works at our clinic. For the full price list, see Cost & insurance.

How does self-pay GLP-1 pricing work?

Self-pay care starts with your First GLP-1 visit ($90), which covers: medical evaluation, injection training and your first 5 mg dose.

After that, you pay one monthly price. It depends on which medicine you take and how often your provider has you take it:

  • Once a month (5 mg)

One injection a month, usually for patients whose weight is stable

    $80 per month

  • Twice a month, compounded semaglutide (5 mg)

$99 per injection, two injections a month (every 2 weeks)

    $198 per month

  • Twice a month, compounded tirzepatide (5 mg)

Two injections a month, every 2 weeks

    $299 per month

  • Brand-name GLP-1 (Wegovy or Ozempic)

Available if you prefer a brand-name medicine

    From $450 per injection

What does the monthly price include?

For the compounded program, the monthly price covers more than the medicine:

  • First evaluation, monthly check-ins, lab review and dose changes
  • Your 5 mg GLP-1 medicine from a licensed 503A/503B compounding pharmacy
  • Syringes, alcohol swabs and a sharps container
  • One-on-one injection training at your first visit
  • Calorie goals, meal-planning support and supplement access through Fullscript
  • Messaging with your provider between visits

What's the difference between compounded and brand-name medicines?

Brand-name medicines, such as Wegovy and Ozempic, are made by a drug company and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are prepared by a licensed 503A/503B compounding pharmacy. They are not FDA-approved brand-name products. That means the FDA has not reviewed them for safety, effectiveness or quality the way it reviews approved medicines.

Both are given as injections, and your provider checks in with you every month either way.

Why does brand-name cost more?

Brand-name medicines carry the drug company's price, and we charge for them per injection (from $450 per injection). Compounded medicines come from a compounding pharmacy, and we offer them as a monthly program starting at $80 per month, with visits and supplies included.

Lower cost isn't the only thing to weigh. Compounded medicines are not FDA-approved, so talk with your provider about what matters most to you.

How do I know which one is right for me?

You and your provider decide together. Your provider looks at your health history, your goals, your insurance coverage and what you can afford, and also decides which dose schedule is right for you.

If your situation changes, for example your insurance later approves a brand-name medicine, we'll help you switch.

Will my insurance pay for it?

We accept Aetna, Anthem, Anthem HealthKeepers, BHS (Behavioral Health Systems), BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS), Federal BCBS (Federal Employee Program), Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna and Evernorth, GEHA (Government Employees Health Association), Humana, Magellan, Medicaid, Medicare, MultiPlan, Optum, Sentara Health Plans, TRICARE, UnitedHealthcare (UHC / UBH), Virginia Premier.

Many plans don't cover GLP-1 medicines for weight loss. Call us before your first visit and we'll check what your plan covers. If your plan denies coverage, the self-pay program is an option. Keep your denial letter, because we'll ask for it.

Lab work is billed separately and can often go through your insurance, even when your medicine is self-pay.

Can I save by paying ahead?

Yes. You can pay ahead for several months of the 5 mg maintenance dose. Longer plans save more. The pay-ahead table on our Cost page shows every total.

Does my dose change the price?

The monthly prices on our site are for the 5 mg dose. If your provider recommends a different dose, call us at 757-469-1452 and we'll tell you the price.

Are there any other costs?

  • Lab work is billed separately.
  • Regular office visits have their own fees, listed on the Cost page. The GLP-1 program has its own prices.
  • Missing a visit without 24 hours' notice may cost a $25 no-show fee.

Can prices change?

Yes. Medicine prices can change with pharmacy supply and market conditions. Our Cost page always shows our current prices.

Who can join the self-pay program?
